AAALAC International

Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and College of Arts and Sciences has maintained accreditation through AAALAC International since 1992.  AAALAC International is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs.

Animal Welfare Regulations

USDA Animal Care, a unit within the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, administers the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).  It is the only federal law in the U.S. that regulates the treatment of animals in research.

Mississippi State University’s animal care and use program is in full compliance with the AWA and is registered with the USDA.

Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare

The Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) provides guidance and interpretation of the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, supports educational programs and monitors compliance with the Policy by Assured institutions and PHS funding components to ensure the humane care and use of animals in PHS-supported research, testing, and training, thereby contributing to the quality of PHS-supported activities.

Mississippi State University’s Animal Care and Use Program assurance has been approved by OLAW.
